The admission process for Malaysian universities can vary slightly depending on the institution and the level of study (undergraduate or postgraduate). However, we can provide you with a general overview of the typical steps involved in the application process for Malaysian universities:
Eligibility Criteria to study in Malaysia
- Age Requirement for education in Malaysia
- The candidates who are about to apply for language institutes to study in Malaysia must be between 18 to 35 years of age as of the date of application.
- The candidates who are about to apply for higher education institutions in Malaysia are not subjected to any age limit.
Health Screening to study in Malaysia
To ensure that the candidates are in good health, they have to undergo medical screening upon arrival in Malaysia (post-arrival) in panel clinics or health centers of any one of registered Education Malaysia Global Services’. Pre-arrival medical screening is not required.
- A health declaration form is to be submitted by the students for the application of the Visa Approval Letter (VAL).
- Candidates must comply with other requirements concerning Yellow Fever.
- A letter from the local doctor is to be obtained by the candidates in case of any medication or any major treatment that has been undergone in recent days. This is because certain medicines and procedures may cause inaccurate results during medical screening in Malaysia.
- Post-arrival medical screening is required to be undergone by the students within 7 days of arrival in Malaysia by consulting the respective universities.
- The panel clinic or health center performs the medical screening of the students with impartiality, and are indemnified for their findings based on the medical screening. The findings and opinions given by the panel clinic or health center are final rather than the previously given health declaration forms by the candidates.
- If students deemed not suitable to study or reside in Malaysia then they have to leave Malaysia before the expiry of the visa granted upon arrival.
- False declaration of the health and other information is considered as an offense under the Laws of Malaysia resulting in prosecution and deportation.
- In such cases, a yellow fever vaccination booklet/card is to be returned before clearing an Immigration at the port of entry.
English Proficiency Test to get Admission in Malaysia for International Students
Malaysian universities offer courses in English, a certain level of English proficiency is required especially in speaking and writing. English competency must be satisfied as to the minimum course requirement as approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). English proficiency is to be demonstrated while applying for a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) by submitting any one of the following English Language test results.
