Overview of Master of Orofacial Sciences (Restorative Dentistry/Periodontology) in MAHSA University

The Master of Orofacial Sciences Programme bridges the Doctor of Dental Surgery and the three-year doctorate (DResDent). This one-year programme will be a pre-requisite to the ?rst planned doctoral programme, Doctor of Restorative Dentistry (DResDent). This combination of one year Master and three years Doctoral programme will be among the qualifications required to enable graduates to be registered as dental specialists under the new Malaysian Dental Act 2018 which was recently passed by Cabinet.
This Master programme provides opportunities for local private practitioners or potential dental lecturers to specialized in an area of interest to them. The common core courses make up 50% of the programme and includes Applied Medical and Dental Sciences, Research Methodology and Biostatistics, Research Project and General Dentistry. The Restorative Dentistry module shall comprise of at least 50% of the programme.
The research project may be based on the simple collation of clinical data towards a clinical audit outcome, preliminary ?eld studies or introductory laboratory studies. The research output can be in the form of mini-dissertations or scienti?c reports.
