Founded on 20th August 2002, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) is entirely owned by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). It consists of 13 branch institutes. This multi-campus technical university holds the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia called the Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi. It is also accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Over the years, the university has strived to provide high-quality technical education through its well-designed academic curriculum.

UniKL is managed by Universiti Teknikal MARA Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) or Council of Trust for the People. MARA is a government agency under the Ministry of Rural & Regional Development.
UniKL has 13 branch institutes, located at 12 campuses spread across Malaysia. Malaysia France Institute is situated in Bandar Baru Bangi. British Malaysian Institute is located in Gombak. Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology is situated in Dengkil. Malaysian Spanish Institute is located in Kulim. Malaysian Institute of Information Technology, UniKL Business School, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Malaysia Italy Design Institute are situated in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian Institute of Chemical and Bio-Engineering Technology is located in Alor Gajah. Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology is situated in Lumut. Royal College of Medicine Perak is located in Ipoh. Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology is situated in Masai, Johor. Institute of Medical Science Technology is located in Kajang.
UniKL offers more than 140 courses, including 15 master's, 62 bachelor's, 8 doctoral, 48 diploma, 9 foundation and several certificate programs in various disciplines of technology and science. It houses around 22,372 students and 2,614 staff members, including more than 300 academic experts. The university maintains collaborations with more than 100 universities and industry partners worldwide. Some prominent partner institutions include the University of Tasmania in Australia, Aarhus Business School in Denmark, IUT Nazaire in France, EUROCOPTER in Germany, Banasthali Vidyapith University in India, the University of Trento in Italy, Nagaoka University in Japan, Massey University in New Zealand, MAPUA University in the Philippines and Kosminski University in Poland. Gading Group, Petronas, MTR Academy, Tm Berhad, Siemens and Ernst & Young are some well-reputed industry partners of UniKL.
UniKL has produced 56,293 qualified and talented graduates over the years, including many distinguished people. Muhammad Firdaus Bin Mohd Taib works as a Senior Engineer for Cron Graphics Sdn Bhd. Dr Salehuddin Bin Sulaiman is a Resident Pediatrician in Kuala Terengganu Specialist. Noorsyazwani Bt Mohd Yusof is a Lecturer at the German Malaysian Institute. Nur Ezzura Binti Ezzudin is the Compliance Executive at Emerson Process Management. Anwar Faris Bin Sobri is an Engineer at Petronas Maritime Services. Shahradhi Libiki Bin Iskandar Ridhuan is the Managing Director of Libiki Bamboo Resort. Many other notable and successful people have graduated from this university.
