About Southampton University

We were invited by the Ministry of Higher Education to establish a branch campus for engineering within the EduCity development in Iskandar, Malaysia. Iskandar is the nation’s economic zone located in Johor, just minutes from Singapore. Our Malaysia Campus opened in October 2012 and offers premier undergraduate degrees in engineering.  In 2016, our first group of Malaysia Campus students graduated with excellent results - they obtained 10 First Class and eight Upper Second Class MEng degrees.

The University of Southampton has a global reputation for academic excellence, and we have established a branch campus within the EduCity development in Iskandar Malaysia to enable more students to experience our world-class education.

The University has had the privilege of educating international students from all over the world for over 50 years at our Southampton campus. We are fortunate to enjoy long-standing links with Malaysia that span many disciplines and levels of education and research.

Our split campus (UK and Malaysia) degree programmes offer the chance to gain a unique ‘Southampton’ education for the first two years in Malaysia combined with the final two years at a world-class research-centred university in the UK. You will graduate with a degree from an internationally recognised university and gain a truly global education experience.

University of Southampton Malaysia’s premier undergraduate MEng Mechanical Engineering, MEng Aeronautics & Astronautics and MEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering programmes allow students to study using some of the latest research facilities and equipment in the world and put the theory they learn into practice to deliver real results. All programmes have been approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

With up to 100% scholarships available, our students work alongside world-leading academics, with access to cutting-edge facilities and global collaborations. Students in the Malaysia campus are offered the same course content and teaching quality as students in the UK. Many resources and facilities available in the UK campus are also accessible to our students in the Malaysia campus such as the digital library and career webinars. The new Malaysia campus* features state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities such as a Dry Research Lab, Design Studio, Computer Science Lab, Thermofluid Lab, Aero Lab and Green Energy Lab. In the UK campus, we have invested £8m in our undergraduate teaching and project laboratories. Within six months of completing their degree, 98% of the Southampton graduates were in employment or further study (Graduate Outcome, 2017/18). Our recent graduates have gone on to work with some of the world’s leading companies such as Dyson, Huawei Malaysia and JP Morgan.
