Also called UTM, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (University of Technology, Malaysia) is an open research-intensive university situated in Skudai, Johor. Established as Treacher Technical School, it was converted into a college that saw 320 student enrolments for the session of 1958-/1959. In 1972, the technical college became a technical institute. Finally, in 1975, the institution was elevated to university status and the university constitution got approval by the government in 1976.
The university maintains three campuses with its core campus located in Skudai. Being the first university in the state of Johor, it offers education to the students of the state, country and other nations. The campus is spread over land covering 11.48 sq km and is the 2nd largest public university in the nation. Its branch campus is located in Jalan Semarak within Kuala Lumpur which accommodates part-time, diploma, undergraduate and overseas students learning business studies. Opened in 2017, its new campus is nestled in Pagoh. UTM's Research Management Centre was formed in the year 1982 that manages research and development activities.
The university provides academic facilities through its three faculties, namely engineering, science, and technology. The university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, many of which have specialized certifications. Other than this, it has a total student population of more than 25,000 full and part-time students. Over 5,000 worldwide students from above 120 countries are offered education at the university each year. Students are offered quality education under the guidance of a dedicated staff team of more than 3,000 members.
The university also maintains a library, namely Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah that offers online facilities to students and staff members. Additionally, the university provides several services, including a free bus facilities and local and international restaurants on campus.
Students are offered a range of accommodation options at the hostel. The hostel blocks are divided into units called colleges, for easy administration. The university has a total of 12 colleges having a capacity of 17,500 students. Each college comes with three or more hostel blocks under their administration. Apart from accommodation, these residential colleges offer facilities like a cafeteria, Muslim prayer room, multipurpose hall, tennis courts, a convenience store, internet and computer center, and common room. Other than this, the university has successfully maintained a rich alumni base. University graduates are now contributing to different areas of society.
The university has 2 campuses located in the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur and the other in the city of Johor Bahru – state capital of Johor State. The latter is the main campus of UTM which has 10 residential colleges.
The university offers on-campus and off-campus accommodation.
UTM Johor Bahru offers accommodation to international students equipped with all basic amenities. Each residential college provides volleyball and basketball courts, netball and indoor games for recreational activities.
The UTM off-campus housing area lies within the radius of 5km to 8km. One can opt for apartments, residences and suites according to the choice of the students.

Note: Admission requirements may vary with the programs. In case, the applicants are unable to pass the desired threshold score, they can take English language classes at the university and pass the same (0 to 6 levels).
