We offer high-quality doctoral training to postgraduate students who wish to pursue an MPhil, MRes or PhD. As a research student, you will work under a supervisor who will assist you in your research and thesis design.The school has close ties to the University’s MindsetResearch Centre - which promotes and conducts crossfacultyinterdisciplinary research in to environmentalissues. We are interested in research projects relating toour core areas of research in environmental technologydevelopment and ecology and biodiversity conservationin tropical Asia.

If you are interested in applying to do an MPhil, MRes and PhD in the School of Geography we would recommend that you contact us and discuss your research project proposal with the relevant supervisor in the first instance.
MPhil: At least an upper second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in science, engineering or geography and environment-related subjects. Non-UK qualifications will be assessed against this standard.
MRes: At least a second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Non-UK qualifications will be assessed against this standard.
PhD: A masters degree or a master of philosophy degree, plus at least a second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in science, engineering or geography and environment-related subjects. Non-UK qualifications will be assessed against this standard.
Applicants must have graduated from an approved university. Other equivalent qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
IELTS: 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each element)
TOEFL (iBT): 79 (minimum 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking)
PTE (Academic): 55 (with no less than 51 in each element)
MUET: Band 3
IELTS, TOEFL and PTE (Academic) test results must be less than two years old and all IELTS must be the academic version of the test. MUET results are valid for five years from the date of the release of results.
