Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Sciences is a professional degree that trains actuaries who are equipped with the capabilities to model and analyse finance-related risks, especially in the banking and insurance industries. Private sectors such as financial planning institutions, corporations, investment companies and brokerage firms have a high demand for skilful actuaries in risk management and financial consulting services.
QIU’s Actuarial Science programme is designed according to the topics and subjects required by the professional examinations of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Malaysia Financial Planning Council (MFPC) and the Certified in Quantitative Risk Management (CQRM) certification. Students in this programme are granted module exemptions from the professional examination bodies during their academic years. The university will provide guidance and support for the students to enrol in those professional examinations.
Besides the common actuarial science subjects which are required by the programme, QIU’s Actuarial Science programme includes 4 significant specialisations – Financial Planning, Data Science, Banking and Islamic Finance. We have also incorporated popular software systems such as SPSS, R, Python, C++, SAS and Real-Time Stock Price Tracking System in our curriculum design. This is to ensure that the graduates of this programme are not only able to analyse business or finance problems using mathematical models, but are also able to provide specific financial solutions.
