Overview of Bachelor Of Arts With Honours (Linguistics) in University of Sarawak Sarawak UNIMAS Malaysia

The Bacholer of Arts (Linguistics) with Honors is the first program offered at FLC. The first cohort enrolled on the 2014/2015 session. The sixth intake of students for the 2019/2020 session will undergo their studies with the improvements to the curriculum structure. The courses offered in this programme complement the students' knowledge in Linguistics especially in Borneo languages in Sarawak as well as basic knowledge in the field of literature.

Linguistics is the scientific study of key aspects of languages. It ranges from the study of a language's sound system and grammatical structure to the cultural influence on the language, the integration of language and modern technology as well as the thorough analysis of meaning in language. It is a field of study that compares the structures of different languages and establishes linkages between them.

Bachelor of Arts with Honours (Linguistics) is a 3-year degree programme that is specifically designed to produce quality and competitive graduates. This is a unique programme that is conducted in bilingual mode (Malay and English). It emphasizes on the linguistic knowledge of major languages in the world as well as Borneo languages (Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau, etc).

Entry Requirements.

STPM CATEGORY (SCIENCE & LITERATURE FLOW)

• Obtained at least Grade C (NGMP 2.00) at STPM level in any two (2) subjects (excluding General Studies)

And

• Obtained at least passed Grade E at SPM level in the following subjects: ?
  • English

And

• Obtained at least  Level 2 (Band 2) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

MATRICULATING / BASIC CATEGORY (SCIENCE / ENGINEERING / TECHNICAL / ACCOUNTING STATEMENT / LAW / TESL)

• Obtained at least Grade C (2.00) in any two (2) subjects at the Matriculation / Foundation level.

AND

• Obtained at least passed Grade E at SPM level in the following subjects:
  • English

And

• Obtained at least  Level 2 (Band 2) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

CATEGORY STEM

• Obtained at least the Rank of Jayyid in the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) Examination

And

• Obtained at least passed Grade Epada SPM level in the following subjects:
  • English

And

• Obtained at least  Level 2 (Band 2) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

DIPLOMA CATEGORY (SCIENCE / LITERATURE FLOW)

• Possess a Diploma in a related field or other qualification recognized by the UNIMAS Senate by obtaining a CGPA of at least 2.00;

And

• Include academic transcripts from the first semester to the final semester.

Or

• Obtained at least Grade C (NGMP 2.00) at  STPM level  in any two (2) subjects (excluding General Studies)

Or

• Obtained at least Grade C (2.00) at Matriculation / Basic level in any two (2) subjects.

And

• Obtained at least passed Grade E at SPM level in the following subjects:
  • English

And

• Obtained at least  Level 2 (Band 2) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

EQUAL CATEGORY (A LEVEL, INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE AND AUSMAT)

• Have Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) / equivalent with credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or credit in Malay / Bahasa Malaysia paper in July and passed in the subjects of history (SPM 2013 and above);

And

• Have a GCEA Level qualification with at least a Grade C in any of the following 2 subjects:
  • Mathematics / Physics / Biology / Chemistry / Computing / History

Or

• Pass the International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum score of 26 and get at least a score of 4 in any two (2) subjects at the High Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL) level.

Or

• Have an Australian Matriculation Program (AUSMAT) with at least Grade C for any 3 subjects

And

• Obtained at least level 2 (Band 2) in MUET test / Band 5.5 in IELTS test / score 500 in TOEFL PBT test / score 59 in TOEFL IBT test.
