Dentistry is a highly respected professional career which demands high standards of care and skills, as well as an aptitude for dealing with people.
The SEGi University Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a five-year programme that aims to produce competent, caring and knowledgeable dental practitioners. Students are exposed to early patient contact and clinical training, with an emphasis on the recognition and prevention of oral diseases. The dynamic curriculum is delivered within a problem-based learning approach,with an emphasis on contextual learning of relevant scientific information. The curriculum also reflects the way in which students will be expected to identify and address clinical problems, placing a higher emphasis on delivery through engagement with the students.
The 5-year BDS programme in SEGi University comprises an integrated curriculum, emphasising the oral cavity and related structures, the individual and the community in relation to oral health and morbidity. In the first two (2) years, students learn basic medical and oral sciences with early clinical exposure (the Preclinical Phase) followed by three (3) years of clinical training (Clinical Phase) at SEGi University, and in hospitals approved by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
The curriculum is organised around seven (7) courses covering major thrust areas in dentistry:

Prior to admission, all short-listed applicants are required to undergo a medical checkup to ensure they are free from communicable diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis; and to undergo immunisation against Hepatitis B.
